Smash the Skatriarchy Vol.2: Sverige!

2020-02-21 @ 19:00 - 21:00 CET

” 21:a februari kommer vår goda vän Amelia från Oregon hålla releasefest för sitt senaste tidningsnummer av Smash The Skateriarchy! Här är vad hon har att säga om det senaste numret:

“I’ve been in Gothenburg for the past two months. I’ve skated with some rad folks, and had lots of conversations about equity. I hear many of the same stories from girls, women and LGBTQ folk here that I do in the US. But the approaches to the discussions and the solutions are fascinatingly different.

This zine will include some interviews, some info bit based on the equity workshops I’ve been helping to put on, some photo submissions, an article collaboration about the impact of the n word being used by non-black people in Sweden, and an interview with a skater who came to Sweden during the refugee crisis. It’ll be a good read for Swedes and non-Swedes alike.

Tjej is a wonderful Swedish word that mean girls and women both. It’s closest English translation is “gals” because it’s non age-related and there’s a guy version (kille). Instead of saying “girls and women skate session”, in Swedish you can just say “tjejskate” and it means the same thing! So cool!

HBTQ is what they say instead of LGBTQ. It stands for Homosexual, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer. I kind of like it better.”

Smash The Skatriarchy, volume 2: SVERIGE! My second volume focuses on the skate scene in Sweden I've been in Gothenburg for the past 2 months. I've skated with some rad folks, and had lots of conversations about equity. I hear many of the same stories from girls, women, and lgbtq folk here that I do in the US. But the approaches to the discussions and the solutions are fascinatingly different This zine will include some interviews, some info bit based on the equity workshops I've been helping to put on, some photo submissions, an article colaboration about the impact of the n word being used by non-Black people in Sweden, and an interview with a skater who hosted an unaccompanied minor who came to Sweden during the refugee crisis. It'll be a good read for Swedes and non-Swedes alike. Tjej is a wonderful Swedish word that means girls and women both.
